Thanksgiving officially marks the start of the most festive (and often the busiest) time of year. It’s a beautiful season—filled with gatherings, traditions, and meaningful moments—but it can easily become overwhelming if we’re not intentional. At Shookhill Secret, our goal is simple: plan & prep ahead so you can enjoy the season as much as everyone else.
Thanksgiving is the perfect place to begin. It’s one of the rare occasions that brings everyone together—quite literally—around the table. But getting that meal planned, organized, and perfectly timed is no small feat. The secret? A bit of planning, a dash of humor, and a willingness to delegate.
Think of hosting like conducting a symphony. Each person plays a role, and when everyone knows their part, the day flows beautifully. Assign specific dishes to guests, especially those who make something well or enjoy contributing. If you’d like something done a certain way, provide a recipe, photo, or instructions—it’s the easiest way to ensure your vision comes to life without doing it all yourself. Our hosting essentials is a super helpful place to start. And don’t be afraid to start early, we’re doing a good deal of traveling over the holidays so we get a jump start on what we can. It’s not too early to pull together your Thanksgiving tablescape, plan the menu and print the placecards.
Set the tone with smart stations
To keep the kitchen clear and the mood relaxed, set up a drink station (we love a cider punch which is easily prepped in advance) and a fall-inspired charcuterie board away from the main cooking area. This allows guests to mingle and snack without standing in your workspace. We also let guests know what time dinner will be served and what’s on the menu (download our menu template), which helps manage expectations and keeps the day on schedule.
And don’t be afraid to ask for help! Thanksgiving is a day when everyone can contribute—carving the turkey, pouring the wine, lighting candles, or bringing dishes to the table.
Add thoughtful touches
Small details make gatherings feel special. Using our guides, menus and templates makes it easy to do (we already did the heavy lifting for you). Place cards help guests feel welcome, and a printed menu adds elegance to larger tables. And if you’d like someone to say grace or share what they’re thankful for, leave a gentle note near the appetizers so guests can be prepared. It keeps the moment meaningful without feeling forced.

Elegant, personalized wrapping made easy
Once the gifts are chosen, a beautiful presentation makes them even more special. Our 2025 wrapping theme is understated elegance—subtle winter patterns, velvet and striped ribbons in rich reds and greens, and adornments like greenery sprigs, gold stars, or miniature ornaments. It’s these little touches that make gifts feel thoughtful and memorable.
Holding space for gratitude
In that spirit, we encourage you to participate in our annual our Random Acts of Kindness Challenge—a gentle, meaningful way to spread kindness every week in December. We hope you’ll join us in uplifting your own corner of the world. Download our free Flyer and Tag to share with guests on Thanksgiving.
